Spatial Validation of Government Infrastructure Expenditure Project within the Gauteng Province

In today's dynamic socio-economic landscape, ensuring effective allocation and utilization of government funds for infrastructure projects is paramount. This project focuses on spatially validating government infrastructure expenditure projects within the Gauteng Province, leveraging Geographic Information Systems (GIS) knowledge, Google Earth Pro Imagery, and land-use land cover (LULC) change assessment techniques. This project is a collaborative engagement with the Office of the Premier (GIS department).

GIS allows us to spatially assess the location and existence of government-funded projects, providing crucial insights into their distribution and impact. By utilizing GIS, we can ensure transparency and accountability in resource allocation, thereby enhancing the efficiency of infrastructure development initiatives.

Land-use and land-cover assessments and high-resolution satellite image change detection serve as invaluable tools to validate project status and progress. By comparing pre- and post-construction land cover data, we can assess whether infrastructure projects are being implemented according to plan. Deviations from expected land cover changes can signal potential delays or unforeseen challenges in project execution. Additionally, spatially corresponding land cover changes with project timelines and milestones provide stakeholders with a comprehensive understanding of project advancement, facilitating informed decision-making and resource allocation.
