The seventh iteration of the Quality of Life (QoL) Survey is underway

Every two years, the Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) conducts a Quality of Life (QoL) survey to gather data on a variety of issues that affect Gauteng residents. These issues include transportation, education, health, and social and economic attitudes. The collected data is then used to gain a better understanding of the needs of Gauteng’s residents and to provide stakeholders, particularly the government, with data to inform planning and policymaking.

Since its inception in 2009, the QoL survey has grown into one of the largest social surveys in South Africa. By collecting data at the provincial, municipal and ward levels, the survey provides valuable insights into the lives of the Gauteng City Region residents, given the diverse population and extremely high levels of inequality in the region.

The implementation of the QoL Survey is an enormous undertaking, with six iterations to date. The preparations for the launch of the 7th iteration began in late 2021, and our GCRO team recently joined our Quality of Life (QoL) fieldworkers on site to observe interviews.
