GCRO bids farewell to Dr Darlington Mushongera
After 14 years of dedicated service, we bid farewell to Darlington, Senior Researcher and theme leader for Poverty and Inequality at the Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO). Since joining GCRO in August 2011, Darlington has been instrumental in advancing research on poverty, inequality, governance, and development measurement. His expertise in multidimensional poverty methods and his widely published work have shaped critical policy conversations in the Gauteng City-Region.
Darlington’s academic journey is remarkable—holding degrees in Economics, Rural and Urban Planning, Poverty Studies, and a PhD in Town and Regional Planning from Wits. His doctoral research, “Who governs Johannesburg Water?” reflects his deep commitment to understanding governance and service delivery.
Beyond research, Darlington has shared his passion for music as the director of a church orchestra in Diepsloot, using music as a tool for social change. His dedication to improving lives—both through scholarship and community engagement—leaves a lasting legacy.
We thank Darlington for his invaluable contributions and wish him every success in the next chapter of his journey.
